7 Ways To Improve Your Life In 7 Days

Choose to be Happy

Happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy.

Make Time for Yourself

Too many things to do? Not enough time? Stop.

You need a break. Now. At a minimum take a minute, and do “nothing”. Look out the window, daydream, think of something luxurious, think of something good. For yourself. This important little exercise can refresh you and helps to clear your mind.

Take a Breath

Take a deep breath, hold it, then let it out. Now do it again. This is an excellent way to reduce tension and stress and only takes a few moments. Do this several times throughout the day. Don’t forget to breathe!

Help Someone

A simple act of helping someone can make you feel good about yourself. It doesn’t have to be a major undertaking. A smile, a simple compliment, a kind word, telling someone you appreciate them is often all it takes.

Take a Hike

Regular exercise is very beneficial to your health and, next to swimming, walking is the single best exercise you can do. It’s easy and requires little or no equipment. Take a brisk walk for 30 minutes. Every day. This is an excellent way to build stamina, tone muscles and maybe even shed a few of those extra pounds along the way.

Be Grateful

Be grateful for the things that you do have. As the old saying goes, “I complained because I had no shoes. Until I met a man who had no feet”.

Have a Purpose

According to http://DestinyFinders.com each of us has a unique, special rewarding something we are destined to do in life. A life purpose. Find your life purpose. And live it.

These 7 things can help you improve your life in just 7 days. They can help you gain more positive control over your life. They can help boost your self-esteem. Together, they can improve you physically, mentally and spiritually.

10 Ways To Financial Freedom

Use any of the 10 following ways to become financially free. In an informative article, find pro?s and con?s for taking any of the ?10 routes? and practical advice for doing so.

THINK BIG AIM HIGH!

10. WIN A LOTTERY ? okay, okay I know a lot of Internet Guru?s, life-skill advisors and writers who will cringe when they see this. But there are ways of increasing your chances. At the time of writing, the odds of winning the U.K. lottery are around 14- million to 1.

There are a number of ways to improve your chances of winning ?

  1. Play regularly, the more you play, the better your chances.
  2. Join a syndicate, the more lines you cover the better the odds.
  3. Use the same numbers, a great number of people who win cash in the lottery use a fixed set of numbers e.g. birthdays of family members, memorable dates, phone numbers etc.
  4. Try wheeling pairs, you can find more information about this technique at http://www.thelotterysite.com/predicting.htm.

Pro?s ?
You can become extremely wealthy or be a Millionaire overnight.

Con?s ?
The cost, each line has to be paid for, the odds are still very high. If in a syndicate you will have to share your winnings.

This shouldn?t be viewed as a good route to take for anyone that wants to be financially free, but if you have a few quid spare, you can be lucky. Maximum return for a minimal investment. Somebody wins every week, you are as lucky as anyone else.

9. MARRY FOR MONEY ? Oooh, that?s gonna go down like a fart in a lift! Highly unethical, not recommended, but are you dating?

Does it matter how much your partner is worth? 70% of people end up in dead-end relationships, unhappy and broke. You have the choice of marrying anyone you decide to. 37% of people marry for convenience, children, because they get pressured or for legal reasons.

Before you marry anyone, find out if they can support you. Don?t just settle for second best, if you are NOT totally in love with the person you choose to marry, make sure they are loaded. That way at least whatever problems you have to put up with in your marriage, money won?t be a worry. If you get divorced, you can expect to receive a reasonable settlement figure that will help to insure that you are catered for financially.

Pro?s ?
If your partner is elderly you are likely to receive a majority of your spouse?s estate, Money makes Money, if you marry a wealthy person the chances are you?ll have good opportunities to make your own fortune.

Con?s ?
You make your bed you have to lie in it, whatever happens you are responsible for the decision you made. You may be pressured by family members if they ?get wind? of what you are doing. You may be asked to sign a pre-nuptial agreement voiding your stake in any fortunes.

8. SECONDARY INCOME ? These days it?s not uncommon for people to have a second job in order to boost their income. Most people struggle to pay every day bills and expenses let alone afford to have savings or money to spare. Your second job should also generate a large enough income to justify the extra hours you work, but not effect your main income source.

? I had a good friend who worked 2 shifts daily at a paper factory, at the end of each month he took home over double a normal wage?. ?I also used to be a retained firefighter and in a month could earn anything up to ?1000.00 in addition to my normal monthly wage?

Pro?s ?
With a second income, you should earn enough to ensure a financially secure future and be able to afford a few luxuries.

Con?s ?
How long you can keep a second job going. You will be exhausted And have very little spare time at all. You could be liable for higher taxes which would not make it viable. Your employers may object to you having 2 jobs, you may loose one or both of them.

7. AIM HIGH ? You want to be the boss, are there promotion prospects at work? You could work every extra hour available, be dedicated and if you are successful you may even be head-hunted.

? I employed a sales rep for ?18,000 per annum, after 2 successful years he was headhunted by a competitor who eagerly paid him ?25,000 per annum + car + bonuses + pension. Another year later he was promoted to assistant manger earning over ?35,000 per annum + bonuses etc?.

You should be frugal with your money and invest in multiple pension plans over the next few years. You should pay off your mortgage early (if you can afford to pay a little extra each month you will pay less interest) and be more financially secure by the time you retire.

Pro?s ?
If you are headhunted, you can expect higher wages with superior benefits, e.g. company car, pension, bonuses etc. If you work your way to a top position within a large corporation your remuneration package should be substantial enough to make you financially free.

Con?s ?
There will be strong competition from colleagues, by the time you are in that sort of position you will be highly stressed, burnt out and will have had to sacrifice most of your spare time and family life.

6. BECOME SELF EMPLOYED - How well do you know your job? could you do it better on your own? Your bosses have a lot of every-day overheads, any profits are for them or the company?s development.

You can give their customers the same service for less. There are many organizations set up specifically to help people get started in business for themselves (this helps your government keep unemployment figures down)

e.g. ? I left a company I worked for after 14 years, became self employed and at least 20 of the company?s customers gave me their business after only one phone call, because they already knew me and it cost them a lot less for my services?.

Pro?s ?
You will be your own boss. You will keep all profit. You work the hours you want, overheads can be minimal, you only have to work with who you want to.

Con?s ?
The buck stops with you, it can take a little time to adjust and establish your business, If you don?t work you don?t get paid.

5. START YOUR OWN COMPANY ? Once you are self employed or, you have some capital (e.g. inheritance, lottery win etc) why not employ others to do your work for you. You may reach a point where you have too much work and you will have to choose to turn down addition work or take on more staff. Run properly, a larger company can provide comfortably for you and your family for the rest of your lives. Once established with a good customer base, it can be sold for large sums of money.

Pro?s ?
Successful business can result in almost anything, e.g. look at Richard Branson?s empire or Stelios from Easy Jet.

Con?s ?
There are many con?s against running a larger company. ? In the 14 years I worked for the same company, 1 employee left, setup on his own and took clients TWICE , the company secretary was stealing from the business for over 5 years, Your employees do not have the same interests as you in your company and you will have to clear up any problems they create. You will need to be the first one in and the last to leave and work every hour you can if you want to be successful.

4. INVEST IN PROPERTY ? This can be in your country of residence or overseas. In the U.K. alone at least 35% of people have considered or are actually purchasing investment property.

In today?s unstable investment market, property can be one of few proven methods for a good return on your money. Many overseas locations offer the chance for second homes at reasonable prices. e.g. ?At the time of writing, it is still possible to purchase a property and land in France for less than ?20,000.00 ?. In the U.K. you cannot even expect to buy a small building plot for less than ?50,000.00.Prices are still rising which makes it possible, for anyone, with money to invest, to reap substantial rewards.

Pro?s ?
You have the chance to own a permanent holiday residence in a desirable location which can generate a good income if you rent it out over the holiday periods. Development potential, many landlords in the (U.K.) buy large townhouses and convert them to flats and bedsits. Houses rarely lose value. You can purchase property at auction and resell making good profits just by being in the right place at the right time.

Con?s ?
There are many things to consider before purchasing property. If you are buying overseas, ensure you are aware of all the red tape and bureaucracy. You can be misled by estate agents, If you do not know the area in which the property is located you may have problems selling. If there is civil unrest in the location of your choice, you may lose everything. e.g. recent problems in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

3. BECOME A WRITER ? There are many people today making huge amounts of money writing. You do not have to be Jeffery Archer, Barbara Cartland or an award winning journalist in order to make a living from writing.

Anyone has a number of things to write about, life experiences, work related topics, sport, hobbies etc, etc. Again there are literally hundreds of articles and good resources on this subject available on the internet. Author J.K. Rowling is now amongst the richest women in the world due to her Harry Potter novels. She has been writing since the age of six, but never actually published the first Harry Potter novel until 1996. Somewhere, someone will be interested in what you have to say.

Pro?s ?
Both fame and fortune could come your way, you can earn from many different sources including magazines, newspapers, news- letters, television and radio.

Con?s ?
It can take years to be recognized, writers block can be a, a, a uhmm, a oh you know what I mean!! Knock backs can be very disheartening and regular. You must persevere.

2. MULTI LEVEL MARKETING BUSINESSES? Why is it, MLM has such a bad reputation? In Japan over 40% of all business is carried out using MLM techniques. Just type in Multi Level Marketing in your search engine and there are currently 2,840,000 listings on the subject in Google alone. Here?s a quick idea of how it works.

e.g. Normal business. Manufacturer sells product to Distributor Distributor sells product to Wholesaler Wholesaler sells product to Retailer Retailer sells product to Consumers

Lets say the product costs the manufacturer ?5.00 to make. The distributor pays ?8.00 but must buy in lots of 1000 units. The wholesaler pays ?12.00 each in lots of 500 units. The retailer pays ?14.00 and can buy in lots of 50-100 units. The consumers normally only want 1unit and pay ?20.00 for it.

Obviously if the manufacturer wants to increase sales he can Sell to more distributors who in turn sell to more wholesalers who sell to more retailers etc, etc.

MLM principles are very similar but without middle men, wholesalers or retailers it is possible for an agent to buy directly from the manufacturer in low volumes at the same price as a distributor (e.g ?8.00) the agent sells direct to the consumer and makes a good profit.

If the agent decides, they can ?sign-up? people to mirror their business and the company will pay commissions to the original agent on any sales made by their downline. This means you can be earning money without any effort on your part, other than enlisting other agents. Imagine introducing 2 agents who in turn introduce 2 agents who then introduce 2 agents, you get the picture? It is possible to build enormous downlines of agents all earning you money, almost with unlimited income possibilities.

Pro?s ?
It is possible to build an almost unlimited income from a MLM business opportunity. MLM techniques can be used to market an existing product being distributed by ?normal business? means. Overheads are low, agents are self sufficient businesses themselves, not employed.

Con?s ?
There are hundreds of different types of MLM opportunities. Some work, a lot don?t. If you want to market by MLM, you must fully understand the techniques and procedures involved.

1. HOME BASED INTERNET MARKETING BUSINESS ? This is without any doubt the best proven method of attaining financial freedom. It is easily possible to build a hugh network of automated websites, have hundreds of top quality products without even spending a penny. Some of the top ?Internet Guru?s? are earning six figure incomes and have army?s of affiliates all selling their products. Once established websites can generate ?multiple streams of income? 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year from a customer base of approximately 600 million people. There are unlimited resources and support from experts all over the world to help you advertise for free and guide you to successfully reach your ultimate goal and be financially free for life.

Pro?s ?
Ever increasing customer base, endless availability of powerful tools and products. You can start an internet business on a shoestring budget in your spare time as a secondary income, be your own boss, all the advantages of an MLM company, few small overheads, almost unlimited streams of possible income. Free advertising, Free Websites, Free products.

Con?s ?
It takes time and effort to build an internet business, In the early stages development can seem slow, you will need to become computer literate and learn as you go. It can seem daunting but if you take your time and go step by step the results can be unbelievable. There are initial costs with any business but these can be kept to a minimum if you are careful with your choices.

The Long Way

Direct Answers - Column for the week of October 4, 2004

I wrote you about four years ago, when my eight year marriage was ending in divorce.

At that time you gave me some great advice about beginning again. After reading the recent letter from Linda and how she “settled” for the wrong man, I felt I had to write an update letter.

I can look back now and realize in too many ways, I “settled” in my first marriage. I reaped the results eight years later with a broken heart. After that marriage ended, I chose to live my life to the fullest, to take every opportunity to enjoy life and my friendships, and within reason, to never settle in anything.

I wanted children, a family with which to grow old together, and the white picket fence. But I couldn’t focus on what I didn’t have. I could only focus on what I did have, which was a lot of time and some great friends. Sure there were women who came and went during that time (mostly went), but I never settled.

Amazingly, I did meet a fantastic woman who is in every way my other half, as I am for her. We’ve been married now a little over a year and are happier now than when we were courting. We can’t imagine life without the other now.

My point is not that I met my other half, but instead I want to mention the positive outlook on life and love we both originally had. Being the right person for the other would not have helped either of us if my wife and I had a “wrong” attitude when we met. We would have simply walked right past the other.

Having the right attitude towards life, we ended up being like a huge magnet attracting steel. Anyway, thanks for the great advice and continue the great work! I never miss a week.

Scott

Scott, sometimes we get things right only after we have made a mistake. Sometimes we get things right when someone shows us the way. And sometimes we need a wake-up call to get things right.

In the book “Life Lessons” David Kessler wrote about Caroline, a woman with “the most genuine smile you will ever see.” Not only was she happy, but to him she seemed to be one of those people who live a charmed life. When he told Caroline he thought she was lucky in love, she told him her story.

When she was in her early 40s, Caroline found a lump in her breast the doctors called suspicious. She waited three agonizing days to learn if cancer was spreading throughout her body. It wasn’t. The lump was benign.

But Caroline resolved not to let those three days mean nothing. She had been single and desperately lonely. When she went to a party or event, she would quickly scan the room for Mr. Right. If he wasn’t there, she’d go somewhere else searching for him, and always she went home more desperate than before.

Caroline decided to change her approach to life. Even if Mr. Right wasn’t around her, other people were. She would talk with them and enjoy them, no matter what. At the end of each day she no longer felt lonely for she truly talked and smiled and laughed with others. The more she did this the more wonderful people she met and the closer she grew to her friends. She stopped being a desperately searching person.

She didn’t meet Mr. Right the first year. Or the second. She met him four years later, and two years after that, they married. Being “lucky in love” has a lot to do with being ourselves and being fully engaged in life.

David Kessler wrote, “In our hearts we know we are destined to live fully, to love fully, and to have great adventures in life.” Our task is figuring out how to do it.

Anger and Scarcity

As a small business owner or freelancer, you will experience periods of abundance and scarcity, many times for reasons beyond your control. Therefore, it is important for you to learn how to deal with your feelings about scarcity in order to put the most into your business

An emotion that is always present when there is a sense of scarcity in life is anger.

Big surprise, you may think. The surprise actually is that very often, it is the anger, which is holding success at bay. Frequently, the individual is angry at success, about success, about money in general or about who gets to have it. This anger may be suppressed, only coming out in bitterness at the “privileges of the wealthy,? or some similar trigger. Envy or jealousy may be other ways of expressing the anger.

Anger can halt success. The purpose of anger as an emotional energy is to push something away. We cannot be receptive and angry at the same time, anymore than a hose can flow water in two directions at once. Money itself cannot harm us. However, it is often the target of our anger when we feel that it has been used against us. If we feel that we have been betrayed, cheated or hurt in some way financially and are unable to release or forgive the experience, we will hold it away from ourselves. Since money or success is part of the experience, it will be held away as well.

No one has to stay angry. It may take some work, but if we are sincere, forgiveness, release or both can occur. Generally, the test is whether it is more important to remain angry or to have the benefits of peace. When we are sincerely attached to our anger, this can seem like a trick question. It really is not. Anger can and should be released if one wants to reap the benefits of peace. Let it move into the past where it belongs. Now and the future are about peace and success.

A Guide To Keeping New Year’s Resolutions

The New Year is quickly creeping up on us. Do you have a New Year?s Resolution? Well, if you?re like most Americans (88 percent in 2001 according to a General Nutrition Centers poll), you have at least one resolution.

And, if you are like the majority of these promise-makers, your resolution is probably related to health and fitness. In 2001 (according to GNC), 55 percent promised to eat healthier, 50 percent resolved to exercise more, and 38 percent wanted to lose weight.

While resolutions are well-intentioned, unfortunately most people fail at keeping them. With all the hype surrounding these promises, it?s easy to get caught up in them without really taking them seriously.

We live in a throw-away society and even our resolutions, I?m afraid, are not immune. However, especially for promises that include improving our health it?s in our best interest to not take them lightly.

So, what?s the secret to successful resolutions? While you can?t wave a magic wand and make your resolution come true, there are some easy steps to take to make it easier to fulfill your promise to yourself.

  • Choose an obtainable goal. Resolving to look like a super model is not realistic for the majority of us, but promising to include daily physical activity in our lives is very possible.

  • Avoid choosing a resolution that you?ve been unsuccessful at achieving year after year. This will only set you up for failure, frustration and disappointment. If you are still tempted to make a promise that you?ve made before, then try altering it. For example, instead of stating that you are going to lose 30 pounds, try promising to eat healthier and increase your weekly exercise.

  • Create a game plan. At the beginning of January, write a comprehensive plan. All successful businesses start with a business plan that describes their mission and specifics on how they will achieve it. Write your own personal plan and you?ll be more likely to succeed as well.

  • Break it down and make it less intimidating. Rather than one BIG end goal, dissect it into smaller pieces. Set several smaller goals to achieve throughout the year that will help you to reach the ultimate goal. Then even if you aren?t able to reach your final goal, you will have many smaller, but still significant, achievements along the way. For example, if your goal is to complete a 10K race, your smaller goals could be running a 5K in less than 30 minutes, adding upper and lower body strength training to increase your muscular endurance, and running 2 miles with a personal best completion time.

  • Ask friends and family members to help you so you have someone to be accountable to. Just be sure to set limits so that this doesn?t backfire and become more irritating than helpful. For example, if you resolve to be more positive ask them to gently remind you when you start talking negatively.

  • Reward yourself with each milestone. If you?ve stuck with your resolution for 2 months, treat yourself to something special. But, be careful of your reward type. If you?ve lost 5 pounds, don?t give yourself a piece of cake as an award. Instead, treat yourself to a something non-food related, like a professional massage.

  • Don?t go it alone! Get professional assistance. Everyone needs help and sometimes a friend just isn?t enough. Sometimes you need the help of a trained professional. Don?t feel that seeking help is a way of copping out. Especially when it comes to fitness, research studies have shown that assistance from a fitness professional greatly improves peoples success rate.

  • Limit your number of promises. You?ll spread yourself too thin trying to make multiple changes in your life. This will just lead to failure of all of the resolutions.

On average only about 20% of us keep our New Year?s resolutions. Unfortunately, some of the biggest failures are found in fitness resolutions. But don?t let the statistics get you down. By following the tips above you?ll be better equipped to fall into the successful 20% category. The American Dream Model

The present model of business and career motivation , the one most closely associated with the ?American Dream? which emphases enterpreuneurship, individual achievement, competition, and domination has been around for at least the last 50 years .

Up to the mid 20th century, the predominant prosperity model was the Calvinist work ethic originally derived from the Puritan. The Calvinist work ethic emphasized hard work, saving for the future, and foregoing vacations, paying bills in cash, and foregoing luxuries to save for a rainy day. On the other, the motivation for moneymaking is no longer saving for the future, but, what Thornstein Veblen, the famous 19th century economist characterized as ?conspicuous consumption.? Luxury homes, luxury cars, fancy electronic gadgets, and exotic vacations create the illusion of wealth. The philosophy of the Amway Corporation, now known as Quixtel in the U. S. is a good illustration of the concepts involved.

Amway Corporation is a direct selling organization that produces and markets products using a Multilevel Marketing system (or MLM for short). Multilevel marketing is a form of direct selling in which manufacturers authorize independent contractors to sell their products directly to consumers, bypassing intermediaries and retail stores. Using the garage or a spare bedroom as a warehouse and a home office as a business hub, a distributor makes a profit by buying wholesale from his or her company and selling to customers at retail prices. MLM is also a recruiting business. A distributor is permitted to sign up other individuals to become part of his company?s distribution force–and is paid a commission on the wholesale product purchases made by recruits. Both methods then furnish consumers with new options in acquiring consumer items they desire.

The motivator for work and sole measure of success measured is money and the goods that money can buy:

This is a business, and a main reason people work at any business is to earn money that not only will help them pay their bills, but also meet other goals. Those may be short- or long-term goals, and they could be large (like buying a new house) or small (like saving for a vacation).

A better standard of living is a common motivation and reward for people starting any kind of business. Money - and what it can buy - is the universally recognizable indicator of success that distributors use to motivate and establish credibility for their business.

Another important aspect of this success model is that one has only one self?s to blame for one?s own success for failure. And yet given the low success rate in Amway, “…the data from one investigative report reveal that only 1,000 of over 200,000 distributors ever achieved the rank of Direct Distributor or higher,” it is also quite clear that the company does not offer success to anyone who enters the business [Bromley, 1995:151]. How can all these well-meaning people not succeed?

The only ideologically accepted explanation is that these well-meaning people had no commitment to “the dream.? The product is irrelevant. It is keeping the dream alive and resisting everything that could possibly rob one of The American Dream that counts. For “the dream” is God?s blessing, the divine will, the American Way, family, morality, and the free-enterprise system. Hence, The American Dream becomes a cardinal article of faith, a foundation stone of America?s civil religion. [Striker 1984: 128]As Streiker describes it, the product lines in Amway come to signify and reveal something central to the growth of the company and the role of ideology.

Amway is a performance-based business that rewards people in direct proportion to their effort. The bigger the financial goal, the more time and effort a distributor will need to put into his or her business. With an Amway business, a distributor can work as much or little as he or she likes. The rewards are based directly on the distributor’s accomplishments.

Recently, the American success model has been taken a battering. The competition for business markets and jobs is stiff . The faith in business has been eroded by corporate fraud scandals, massive layoffs, and outsourcing. However, at least for now, it remains the predominant success model in today?s America.
